This is particularly evident when he insists on marrying her to Paris, completely ignoring her feelings and wishes.
Juliet's lack of independence is further illustrated by her dependence on male figures to help her take action. She turns to Friar Laurence for assistance in creating a plan to escape her unwanted marriage. While her initiative is admirable, it highlights the societal expectation that women need male support and intervention to pursue their desires. The Nurse, who initially provides comfort and guidance, also upholds patriarchal norms. She encourages Juliet to marry Paris, placing societal expectations above her happiness.
